Ryanair Sees Passenger Numbers Grow

Ryanair, the low-cost flight provider, are continuing to buck the trend for a decline in passenger numbers and are seeing continued year on year growth.

Passenger numbers in January 2009 have increased by 11% compared with January 2008, with an average of 69% seats occupied per flight.

Ryanair, who fly to a number of destinations across Europe are striving to continue their low cost strategy, and are currently offering 1 million free seats to a wide range of destinations. This covers travel during February, March and April.

Southwest sets sights on LaGuardia Airport

Southwest Airlines, the low cost carrier who offer cheap flights across the USA has submitted a bid which would allow it to assume the now defunct ATA Airlines’ rights to operate at New York’s LaGuardia Airport.

This offer, worth around $7.5million, seeks the right to obtain the 14 departure and arrival positions currently held by ATA Airlines. This would then permit up to seven daily round trips from the airport, allowing Southwest to increase its low cost network of flights.

Singapore Airlines Preferred Seat Selection

Singapore Airlines is to be the first Asian carrier to introduce what it calls “Preferred Seat Selection” for long haul flights.

This service will allow passengers to pre-book seats with extra legroom at a cost. For around £30 passengers can secure these prized seats for their flight. Previously these seats were only available upon request and subject to availability.
