Air New Zealand has revealed plans to save what it expects to be more than $5.15 million in fuel and 16,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually by fitting performance enhancing winglets.
The winglets are to be added to ANZ’s fleet of Boeing 767-300 aircraft, which operate flights to destinations such as Australia, the Pacific Islands and Honolulu.
The work is expected to be complete by the end of 2009.
ANZ have said that fitting the winglets was part of the company’s ongoing commitment to reducing fuel consumption and emissions. Although initially as significant investment, the winglets will achieve improved performance and commercial benefits from aircraft operating on long haul routes whilst being kinder to the environment.
The airline is also considering winglets for its Boeing 777 aircraft, as they become available.
