One of the favourite city destinations in Western Europe noted for its romantic appeal is Paris; sitting astride either side of the river Seine it is one of the world’s most popular cities. For most people visiting Paris, a short stay is often the way they first see the city; the desire to stay longer is strong as there is so much to see and do. It is renowned for its wonderful gothic inspired buildings and street markets; it has much to offer visitors who adore culture, even if it is only for a long weekend. It wouldn’t be possible to visit this city without a trip to the top of the famous steel structure known as the Eiffel Tower; it provides stunning views from the top and is visible throughout most of the city. A walk along the Champs Elysees is essential when you visit Paris; with shops, cafes, and restaurants littered along the wide pavements, it is a ‘must see’ for every visitor. This avenue may be select but it attracts large numbers of visitors daily; most of the five star hotels are located here but more affordable hotels can be found further out.
A trip to Paris would not be complete without a visit to the Louvre museum; it holds in excess of 300,000 pieces of art, which cannot possibly be seen in a single visit. If you are an art lover then you could spend your whole short stay in Paris inside; some of the most important art collections in the world are here including Leonardo da Vinci’s world famous Mona Lisa. Over the years, Paris has been home to many of the world’s famous artists; many of whom left large collections of their paintings here like Monet and Picasso.
Paris is also the home of the equally famous Arc de Triomphe which Napoleon had constructed in the early part of the 19th century; the names of his generals engraved upon it to honor them and his troops. Many people do not know that an observatory was included in the design which affords great views of the surrounding area; it can be found in Charles de Gaulle Place at the intersection of twelve avenues including the Champs Elysees.
Obviously, these are not the only places to visit; and whilst there are many more worthy examples, those listed here should not be missed. A Paris short stay vacation will probably be best suited as just a taster of the city; what you aren’t able to this time will have to wait for another occasion.
