We all love our annual vacation but there are those that never go too far from home and then you find the adventurous types that will travel the world. Whatever your travel interest is you will find a wealth of information online at numerous travel review sites. Let’s face it, when you can book whatever vacation you like using a website, why bother going to a travel agent. The days of waiting for a travel agent to become available to book your annual vacation are over, because there isn’t any waiting online.

This ease doesn’t always hold true however, and I have never been one to trust my entire vacation to a computerized travel site; it just seems a bit too strange to me. However, I am still of the old school and prefer to sit down with a cup of coffee and plan my vacation with a professional, face to face. My travel agent is also used to me changing my travel plans and knows that I will complain if something is not right. It is difficult complaining to a travel site and almost impossible to actually speak to a real person, plus with today’s technology it is almost impossible to say where they are in the world.

They may say something just to appease you and it will not hold true in the end. It is because of the number of things that can go wrong I still prefer to use my local travel agent even if it does take a little more time and there may be more to pay. One of my friends only ever uses the travel sites to book her vacations but she does like the last minute discounts that can be found which are much easier to find using the internet. When last minute vacations come up, you can end up saving a lot of money and she’s gotten some wonderful vacations for almost half the cost.

I wish I could do this but my work just wouldn’t allow me to suddenly take time of as they normally need a couple of months notice. Using a travel site does have other advantages as well because while you can save money on the vacation itself, there are also savings to be made on additional excursions and trips as well if pre-booked. Although I actually spend time with my travel agent, I do actually carry out a great deal of research on prospective locations before I make up my mind. I know it may seem unkind after all the help that my travel agent has given me but I know that if I have problems that need correcting when I return, it is easy to go along and see her to have sorted out.

More and more people are booking their vacations and doing the research online and travel agents are seeing less people walking through their doors. The internet has found a whole new marketplace for people who want more control to design and arrange their vacations online and save money as well. Being of the old school, I still use my local travel agent and while they remain there, I will continue to do so even though I do actually carry out research online. It is actually much easier to go to your travel agent armed with all the information including costs as it can make it much easier to find what you are looking for. I certainly don’t want to spend my time, or their time, looking into trying to find a travel deal that I can afford if I already know that I cannot. But don’t forget, they should also be there to help you with questions that cannot be readily answered online. As every country has different laws, your travel representative can be helpful if you intent to travel to an international destination. They know all of the fees for entering and exiting the countries so not only can they give you the facts, but they make recommendations on where you may want to travel and what there is to see and do.

The internet cannot do everything for you though as it’s not designed to look after your every need and make sure you have as few problems when you travel as possible. I can’t help it because I just like dealing with someone face to face and know that there is a certain amount of care involved with my travel arrangements which is something I do not feel the internet caters for. You can book all of your flights and hotels through the internet but when it comes to complaining or trying to resolve an issue, suddenly a website cannot be of assistance whereas travel agents are there to assist you. The benefits of seeing a person was highlighted when my husband and I wanted to get married and fortunately we found a travel agent that was on exactly the right wavelength as us.

What really made the difference was the way our representative approached the whole wedding arrangements; there was an enthusiasm to the work that was quite infectious, something that I shall never forget. She gave us some educated guesses about pricing without even checking anything officially and I asked tons of questions but she was incredibly patient with me. It was this help that enabled us to book the wedding and our vacation almost immediately which was not something we had planned on but there wasn’t anything else left to do. The other benefit of a travel agent is of course when it comes to problems you may have experienced on your vacation; something they are far more able to deal with than a computer.
